Privacy at Tutory

This notice explains the information Tutory handles while schools, teachers, and students use our conversational assessment and tutoring service. We will expand this notice as the product and our formal privacy program develop.

This is Tutory's current public privacy notice. It is intentionally concise and should not be read as a school or school division's own privacy notice.

Information we handle

Depending on how Tutory is used, we may handle:

  • account information, including a name, email address, profile image, role, and the identifier supplied by a sign-in provider;
  • school, class, roster, learning material, rubric, assessment, conversation, and teacher-review information supplied through the service;
  • messages and contact details submitted when someone requests access or support; and
  • technical, usage, and security information needed to operate and improve the service, such as pages and features used, device and browser details, performance timings, requests, errors, and abuse-prevention records.

Google sign-in

If you choose Google sign-in, Tutory requests basic account information used to authenticate you and connect you to the correct Tutory account: your Google account identifier, name, email address, and profile image when available. Tutory does not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, or Google contacts.

We use Google account information for sign-in, account security, account linking, and support. We do not sell it or use it for targeted advertising.

How we use information

We use information to:

  • provide, maintain, secure, and support Tutory;
  • place users in the correct organization, class, and role;
  • deliver tutoring, assessment, evidence, and teacher-review features;
  • understand how Tutory is used and where its pages and workflows are slow;
  • diagnose failures, prevent abuse, and improve reliability; and
  • respond to access requests, support questions, and legal obligations.

Analytics and performance

We use Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Performance Monitoring to understand visits, feature usage, page and network performance, and broad device and browser characteristics. These services help us improve Tutory and diagnose slow or unreliable experiences. We do not use this information for targeted advertising.

Schools, teachers, and students

Tutory is built for classroom use. A school, school division, or teacher may provide student information and direct how it is used through Tutory. Teachers and authorized school staff can access the classroom information and student conversations made available to them by the product. The school or division remains responsible for its own notices, permissions, and legal obligations when it uses Tutory.

When information is shared

We share information only as needed to operate the service, at the direction of the organization using Tutory, or when required by law. This can include infrastructure, authentication, communications, security, and AI service providers that process information for Tutory. We do not sell personal information.

Storage, retention, and security

Tutory offers data-residency options in North America. The applicable storage region depends on the organization or account configuration. We retain information for as long as needed to provide and secure the service, meet the organization's instructions, resolve disputes, and satisfy legal obligations.

We use administrative and technical safeguards intended to protect information. However, no online service can promise absolute security.

Your choices and requests

You can ask about, correct, or request deletion of your information by contacting us. If your Tutory account is managed by a school or school division, we may need to coordinate the request with that organization.

Changes and contact

We may update this notice as Tutory changes. The date at the top will show the latest revision. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to privacy@tutory.io.
